Michaela, Mindful Wellness and The Chipotle Salad Bowl

Hi Fam! Our text thread was popping this week. Lots of interaction around nutrition facts- how to find them, how to interpret them, etc. Read on for more.

Chipotle’s Nutrition Facts

Okay, the first step in picking “healthy” restaurant food is knowing what’s in it! In the Daily Wellness Text chat, we tried a simple exercise. If you’re not getting a daily wellness boost from us, send TEXT to 1(224)302-6224 to get started.

It’s free for 1 week, then less than a fancy coffee every month.

Try it for yourself, here.

Can you find the nutrition facts on this salad bowl from Chipotle (the fast-casual restaurant)?

1) Can you find nutrition facts for any item on the Chipotle menu?

  • Type “Chipotle nutrition” into Google (or whatever search engine you use

  • Scroll to find a page that is on Chipotle’s website (starts with www.chipotle.com/…)

  • If you can’t find a nutrition page on Chipotle’s site, look for a page from Nutritionix or Fooducate. These are 2 of the most reliable nutrition databases that combine restaurant and grocery foods.

2) Once you get to Chipotle’s nutrition facts, can you find nutrition facts for the specific Salad Bowl we’re interested in?

  • On the Chipotle nutrition page, you should be able to find a way to add ingredients. Choose the veggie option (no meat). Add cilantro-lime brown rice. Add black beans. Add fresh tomato salsa.

  • You should see the nutrition label pictured below

  • If your nutrition label has different nutrition facts, go back to step #2 and make sure you chose the right ingredients.

Did you figure it out?

Meanwhile, as we study eating from an intellectual perspective (learning nutrition), we have to remember to keep thinking about our wellness activities intuitively. Michaela Cole’s Emmy speech has some applications.

Michaela Cole on the Stories Silence Tells Us

Michaela Cole (writer, actress, producer) won an Emmy last month for writing her incredible limited series, “I May Destroy You”. Then, she gave an epic Emmy speech was about writing. But it applies to wellness, too. She implored writers and creatives to stop focusing on the image they portray to the world on social media…and, instead, to sit silently with their thoughts.

The same goes for our wellness journeys. What does silence teach you about your body/mind?
