Resting to Move

Happy Saturday Byte Wellness Fam!

How are you feeling?

I’m feeling better. I’ve spent the last week rehabbing from a back/hip injury that was completely avoidable. Every once in a while, I get a reminder to take a dose of my own medicine. This time, the medicine is balance- something I’ve cut out of my workout routine for the last few years in an attempt to be more “efficient”.

Aiming to fit as much as I could into a 30-minute workout, I added a few extra weight sets to build up my muscles, and I cut out the cool-down stretches that help those muscles recover.

I was doing what we all do in one form or another. I was trying to make my workout routine fit around my busy work schedule; trying to use my wellness superpowers despite what the world threw my way.

But it backfired! That’s because wellness is can’t happen without balance.

Speaking of balance, are you following along with our 28-Day DANCE Challenge? If not, feel free to join by texting DANCE to 1(223)302-6224.

Check out our latest #PhyteWellWednesday Workshop/Virtual Dance Party!

We talked about how our movement barriers (the things that make it harder to dance everyday) are balanced against our movement assets (the things that make it easier to dance everyday).

We workshopped how to shift that balance so our assets outweigh the barriers. Then, we can finally get out of our own way and reach our exercise goals.

Finding Our Balance

Look, we need to strengthen muscles and stretch them.

We need to get enough rest, but we also need to move.

We need food to live, but we shouldn’t eat too much.

It's hard enough to find the right wellness balance in the bustle of our everyday lives. To complicate matters, wellness isn’t one-size-fits-all.

We can’t look to scientific studies or books to tell each of us exactly how to arrange the parts of our lives to balance our wellness needs. We have to use what science does tell us about human bodies in general then figure out what to do with it.

So that’s what we’re doing here in this Byte Wellness community. Together, we’re exploring all the components of wellness and experimenting with how to best arrange them in our own lives.

Check out the vid above to work through wellness balance for yourself.

While you’re doing your daily dancing, make sure you remember to stretch!

And, don’t forget to answer the discussion question below.

Discussion Question

Discussion Question:

  • What are your earliest memories of dancing? Who did you dance with?
Here’s one of those questions that dives deep down into our spirits. What are your associations with this type of activity.
